In its most exalted glorified sense, Scripture presents hope not as an “it” or a thing. Hope is a Person. Hope has a name: Jesus. In fact, the writer of Hebrews points to Jesus as the Better Hope.
So the previous command is annulled because it was weak and unprofitable (for the law perfected nothing), but a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.
Heb. 7:24 ESV
The writer of Hebrews goes on to remark: “Consequently, [Jesus] is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them” (verse 25). Jesus, the Better Hope, perfects us in a way the law could never do. Let us draw near to Jesus, who is seated on a throne of grace, ready to shower mercies upon us in our time of need, chapter 4 says. Whereas the law perfected nothing, Jesus perfects everything! He makes us things new! Let us therefore come boldly to the Lord, knowing He has set us free from our sins by His blood, and now lives as our great High Priest to perfect all that which concerns us holiness, thought, word and deed.
