The vision for Glory Unveiled is to dazzle and amaze you with “the incalculable riches of Christ” that’s in the pages of the Bible (Eph 3:8). By marveling at our Lord Jesus as He is gloriously displayed throughout all of Scripture, we love and adore Him more and are transformed into His likeness! If the whole earth is filled with His glory, how much more His Word!
The name “Glory Unveiled” comes from one of my life verses:
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 3:18 ESV
The Holy Spirit yearns to unveil the glory of Jesus Christ to us again and again from the pages of our Bible! I hope you catch the thrill of this and experience genuine, spiritual life. In each blog I not only attempt to reveal the beauty of Jesus the Spirit has shown me but to share my process of discovery along the way that may supply you with helpful hints to do the same.
Seeing this unveiled glory in the Bible is not about head knowledge, like studying mathematics or a chemistry book. No, God has so created us in His image that as we see His glory by the Spirit of God, we experience that glory and richly enjoy His life. This is the goal of Glory Unveiled. By discovering these veiled glories of Jesus from Genesis to Revelation, we grow in our communion and fellowship with God.
In seeing Jesus as He truly is, we are transformed from glory to glory (2Co 3:18). The Holy Spirit removing the veil from your Bible to behold Jesus’ glory is how you become who you already are in Christ. As fellow travelers on this pilgrim journey from faith to faith, I pray that by God’s grace you may marvel at the Lord Jesus Christ (see 2Th 1:10) through these short blog posts. Freely I’ve received, so it is my pleasure to freely give!
Does the Old Testament seem to be a confusing fog of laws, ceremonies, archaic history of a warlike Middle Eastern nation, and miscellaneous prophets, kings and characters? You know the familiar Sunday school stories–Adam & Eve in the garden, Noah’s ark, David and Goliath, Daniel and the lion’s den. But for many the Bible is like mixed up puzzle pieces with no box top picture that let’s you see how everything fits together.
Jesus is that box top.
Why Study the Old Testament?
“And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself” (Luke 24:27).
The first thing the gospel-wakened Christian notices in the Scriptures is that Jesus is all over the place, including the Old Testament. Suddenly the Spirit has given us ‘Jesus glasses’ to see the presence of the Savior in the shadows of the old covenant texts. Like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, our ‘hearts burn within us’ (Luke 24:32).
Jared C. Wilson, Gospel Wakefulness
Behind all these diverse stories, prophecies and laws that make up our Old Testament is one unifying principle, one big story: Jesus Christ. When we see the big Story–“His-story” in history–the Word of God comes alive, pulsating with invitations to know this wonderful Savior in a myriad of ways.
It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me—
John 6:45 ESV
Why does seeing Jesus in the Old Testament really matter? So what if I see Isaac carrying wood up Mt. Moriah as a picture of Jesus carrying His cross up that same mount? Aren’t these just intellectual curiosities? No, it’s far more than that. The beauty of the way God put our Old Testament together is that we have actual history sovereignly arranged in such a way as to picture heavenly realities pointing to Jesus Christ. Colossians 2 says that these Old Testament pictures were shadows but that the body, or substance, of them is Christ. What has been thrilling for me is how these pictures frame a wonderful canvas upon which God develops our faith. So far from being mere intellectual factoids, what God has given us, under the tutoring of the Holy Spirit, is seeing what we have in our Savior, Jesus Christ.
And by seeing, we are transformed. “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit” (2Co 3:18 ESV). This unveiling of Christ is what Glory Unveiled is all about.
It is my earnest desire that what the Father has taught me about Jesus would bless you and encourage you to explore the excellencies of Christ in His word. Life is short and your time is too precious to waste. Although I learn from others, each blog article is not simply echoing what others have said but I trust is what the Holy Spirit has shown me of the glory of Christ. I pray that the Lord may take these little loaves and fish He’s given me and break them for you to enjoy Him more. May our heavenly Father unveil His glory in Jesus Christ for you as He has for me. God bless you!
